Mercedes-Benz’s MBUX infotainment system didn’t necessarily need an upgrade – it was already equipped with a slew of ultramodern apps and features. And yet just days after revealing the MBUX Hyperscreen, a 56-inch-long infotainment display debuting with the EQS electric sedan this spring, Mercedes-Benz has announced a plethora of high-tech upgrades coming to its MBUX system.
Here at Mercedes-Benz of Macon, we keep our finger on the pulse of all new Mercedes-Benz advancements coming your way. Read on to discover what features are coming to the MBUX, artificial intelligence’s role in it, and why will.i.am. is involved.
Talk To Me
One of the most significant enhancements to MBUX is made possible by the ever-expanding capabilities of artificial intelligence. Your system’s voice assistant will utilize a more sophisticated form of AI, enabling it to communicate in a more natural way. The system will be able to respond to you with greater empathy and will even be capable of sarcasm.
Your voice assistant will continue to learn and adapt as it becomes more familiar with you and your habits. Haptic feedback embedded in the seats shares a direct connection with the virtual assistant. It will learn your daily routine and access your calendar to make suggestions and upgrade the overall quality and convenience of your daily life.
Gamer’s Gateway
For a more traditional form of computer interaction, MBUX will soon offer in-car gaming. Thanks to a partnership with Antstream Arcade, Mercedes-Benz drivers will be able to stream vintage classics from Nintendo, Sega, and Atari. Additionally, Sony Pictures Entertainment’s Ridevu app will provide film and television content.
Lest you think these features are confined to your passengers or can only be accessed when your car is parked or charging, Mercedes has more ambitious plans. Drivers using Mercedes’ level 3 autonomous driving system (currently only accessible in the United States in California and Nevada) will be able to enjoy movies and games while the car is in motion. Soon, your commute and leisure time could merge as one.
Sound Garden
For Bibb County drivers – situated well outside the autonomous driving system’s service area – Mercedes-Benz has also announced an audio content streaming partnership with Amazon Music and Audible. Both brands will be fully integrated into MBUX and its Dolby Atmos spatial audio capabilities.
The most audacious new audio feature is Sound Drive – a concept that will permit drivers to turn their car into a musical instrument. The idea stems from a collaboration with rapper and producer will.i.am, once and future leader of the Black Eyed Peas. Under the “Boom Boom Pow” writer’s vision, the driver becomes a DJ, using inputs to the throttle, brakes, and steering to influence whatever song is playing. Depending on how you’re driving, the tone and tempo of the music will shift accordingly.
Other celebrities are getting in the mix as well. A-listers including Gillian Anderson, James McAvoy, and Michael Sheen will star in a series of “audio movies” produced by Audible.
Drive Into the Future
The majority of these features, including Sound Drive, should start appearing on Mercedes-AMG® and Mercedes-Benz vehicles starting in mid-2024. Models equipped with the second-generation MBUX platform will be able to process over-the-air updates.
