The electrification of America’s auto market has been a long but deliberate process, one filled with its share of surprises. Add this to the list of extremely pleasant surprises: Mercedes-Benz USA announced that it will introduce a plug-in hybrid variant to its popular GLC SUV series in 2024. Enter the 2025 GLC 350e 4MATIC®® SUV plug-in hybrid, set to arrive later this year.
Though it shares DNA with the C-Class Sedan, the Mercedes-Benz GLC SUV has carved its own niche thanks to its reliably luxurious and spacious cabin. Now, a hybrid version is here to help eliminate your carbon footprint while still offering a world-class SUV experience.
Plugged In and Showing Out
While the powertrain might be different, the Mercedes-Benz GLC 350e 4MATIC®® SUV plug-in hybrid retains its predecessor’s successful blueprint of modern, sporty luxury.
Its hybrid drive system consists of a 134 hp permanently excited electric synchronous motor, coupled with a 24.8 kWh battery. The result is a combined system output of up to 313 hp and 406 lb.-ft. of combined system torque. The electric motor offers 325 lb.-ft. of immediately available torque, creating agile acceleration. The braking system is a fusion of hydraulic braking and electric recuperation, maximizing energy recovery.
An all-electric range of approximately 81 miles guarantees most drivers can cover their everyday commutes and errands without having to resort to the SUV’s internal combustion engine. Furthermore, the “Hybrid” drive mode knows when to prioritize electric propulsion, while an “Off-Road” drive mode optimizes your electric engine for off-road terrain. And with a standard 60 kW DC charger, a full charge can be achieved in just a half hour.
Luxury You’ve Come to Expect
While the hybrid variant may change the way you drive your Mercedes-Benz GLC, what isn’t changing is the luxurious cabin experience Mercedes-Benz drivers have grown accustomed to. In fact, Mercedes-Benz is adding to the list of standard features that can be found within the GLC 300 4MATIC®® SUV. Those features include:
- Heated front seats
- Mercedes-Benz Navigation
- KEYLESS GO®®
- Dual-zone automatic climate control
- Ambient lighting
- Blind Spot Assist
- Adaptive Highbeam Assist
- PARKTRONIC with Active Parking Assist
The list of features expands when you upgrade to the forthcoming Exclusive and Pinnacle trims. All three trim levels will enjoy the use of a floating 12.3-inch digital instrument panel, along with an 11.9-inch central display that rises seamlessly from the center console.
